We will spend our last days in France exploring the Jura region, known for its wine, cheese and outdoor adventures among its stunning lakes. Thereafter our travel itinerary is still flexible, with the broad outline as below.
As always, please share your stories on good/bad experiences you have had along the way as we will appreciate any advice or recommendations on activities, accommodation, etc.
PLANNED DESTINATIONS
Istanbul: we want to give ourselves enough time to explore this multi-dimensional city
Montenegro: we are still working on the details, but the plan looks something like this:
Day 1 – Kotor
Day 2 – Kotor – Durmitor National Park.
Day 3 – Durmitor National Park.
Day 4 – Durmitor to Mrtvica Canyon to Lake Skadar.
Day 5 – Lake Skadar.
Day 6 – Lake Skadar to Stari Bar to Ulcinj.
Day 7 – Ulcinj to Kotor.
Croatia: Start in Dubrovnik, spend two weeks in Hvar and then do a loop back to Hvar via Split
Greece: We are set to arrive in Athens by late August, and then island hop by ferry from there. Islands we are considering are:
Milos
Naxos
Ios
Santorini
Kos / Rhodes
Turkey: Southwest Coast, possibly a self-drive road trip
That should bring us to the end of the Mediterranean summer. Thereafter, it is still a mystery. Thing is, when you start to travel (and when Forrest starts to run) there is always a next destination just around the corner…
"That day, for no particular reason, I decided to go for a little run. So I ran to the end of the road. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd run to the end of town. And when I got there, I thought maybe I'd just run across Greenbow county. And I figured, since I run this far, maybe I'd just run across the great state of Alabama. And that's what I did. I ran clear across Alabama." – Forrest Gump
